Coalition keeps fighting gateway plan Waterfront project object of concerns By Dani Dodge SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE (CA) January 28, 2007Though derided by opponents as a small special-interest group, the Navy Broadway Complex Coalition - a loose alliance of activists, environmental and planning groups, and labor support - has helped shape the debate over downtown waterfront development. Few people profess to love Douglas Manchester's proposal for hotels and offices on the prime waterfront Navy land near Seaport Village, but few others have been willing to fight a plan that got its approvals 15 years ago. The coalition has appealed the project to the San Diego City Council, persuaded a congressman to ask for an investigation and raised $10,000 to file a federal lawsuit. Its members vow that a defeat before the City Council this month won't slow them down. ...
