Base reuse board not OK'd Infighting could delay Naval Station Ingleside redevelopment monies By Beth Wilson Corpus Christi Caller-Times (TX) February 13, 2007More than a year after its formation, a committee dedicated to planning the reuse of Naval Station Ingleside is not recognized by the federal government, which delays the area's eligibility for federal funding. The Department of Defense's Office of Economic Adjustment has not approved the Coastal Bend Redevelopment Planning Committee, formed in January 2006. Disagreement among neighboring jurisdictions about who should sit on the nine-member committee has made it one of the last of about 120 communities nationwide to be recognized, said Richard Tenga, a Defense Department project manager. Redevelopment authorities serve as a funnel for federal funds and only one per area is recognized by the federal government to plan the reuse of military bases slated for closure. Ingleside was recommended for closure in 2005 and complete closure will take place by 2010. ...
