Army pledges $40M to clean up Fort Ord Associated Press Army Times March 13, 2007MONTEREY, Calif. - The Army has pledged to pay $40 million to the agency responsible for cleaning up the former Fort Ord base to remove toxic substances to make way for housing, businesses and open space. Michael Houlemard, executive officer of the Fort Ord Reuse Authority, said Monday the money will fund the removal of old munitions and explosives on 3,300 acres that the Army plans to transfer to the reuse authority this summer. The cleanup is expected to take about six years, Houlemard said. ...
