Allies join battle to stop Army's plans RICHARD WEIZEL Connecticut Post March 12, 2007STRATFORD — The town must not surrender to the U.S. Army in its battle to regain authority to develop the 79-acre former Army engine plant on Main Street. That was the Town Council's message Monday night as it unanimously voted to direct Mayor James R. Miron to meet with the state's congressional delegation seeking: * Conveyance of the 79-acre Army engine property to the town. * Allocation $150 million for cleanup of the contaminated site. * To give the town local control of the project's development. Council Chairman James Feehan, R-9, was not present at Monday's meeting.Miron, who as recently as Friday said he would veto any resolution, came out in support of the motion, saying it would give the town "two opportunities to have the project developed." He said either the Army would develop the site, or Congress would provide for the town to regain control of the site. ...
