City staff against Alameda Point deal
Council tonight will air recommendation to reject developers' partnership

ALAMEDA - City staff is recommending that City Council reject a proposed 
partnership between two powerful development companies, one month after 
the council asked Lennar Urban and Catellus Development Group to work 
together to build on the former U.S. Naval Air Station.

The recommendation adds another layer of drama to Alameda's decade-long 
attempts to redevelop the former base, now called Alameda Point.

Should council members accept the staff's recommendation, they would set 
themselves back at square one in choosing a developer for the 700-acre site.
