Base closure council adds officials State lawmakers, local union leader among additions By Beth Wilson Corpus Christi Caller Times (TX) May 17, 2007CORPUS CHRISTI - Nueces County leaders hope the latest proposal for a group to plan for the redevelopment of the area's military installations is acceptable to those included and the Department of Defense. The group, a local redevelopment authority, must be federally recognized to receive federal funds designed to mitigate the job loses from the closure of Naval Station Ingleside and realignment of programs at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Army Depot. Disagreement among neighboring jurisdictions about who should be in such a group has prevented the Coastal Bend from being recognized by the federal government and thus eligible for federal funds, which have been estimated at as much as $1 million. Nueces County has proposed several different boards, and leaders Wednesday hoped this one would please all parties. ...
