Officials say reuse plans give a road map to land development By Aaron Brand Texarkana Gazette (TX) June 30, 2007Last Tuesday's meeting to discuss the future of local depot and ammunition plant land sparked more than heated discussion. It also provided a general direction development can take. At the reuse plan public forums hosted by the Red River Redevelopment Authority in both New Boston and Texarkana, Texas, it's clear the approximately 15,500 acres at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and 3,800 acres at Red River Army Depot are vital to the future of the region. How that future takes shape is one of the central questions of concern to local citizens and officials. Duane Lavery, RRRA executive director, said the group is preparing responses to the many questions that arose Tuesday. "There were a lot of concerns that were raised in Tuesday's meetings and we feel it's appropriate to respond to those concerns from the Day & Zimmermann work force," Lavery said. He said most of the e-mails the redevelopment authority received generated questions about federal impact aid, property taxes, timber and cemeteries. "Those are the main ones and then of course the concern about DZI jobs after closure," Lavery said. ...
