Base development may be step closerCity Council will meet Wednesday to consider whether city should begin negotiations with developer SunCal By Kelly Rayburn and Alan Lopez Contra Costa Times (CA) July 13, 2007Irvine-based SunCal Companies indicated Wednesday it is confident a deal can be reached on the development of the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, as the company prepares for a key City Council meeting next week. Members of the City Council, acting as the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority at a May 8 meeting, selected SunCal, a privately held company that currently is developing the former Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, to develop the former base. A number of questions remain about how the former base will be developed, including how many housing units will be built; what historical resources will be protected; and how the city, SunCal and the Navy will work together to clean up the 700-acre site. ...
