Huntsville makes way for military transfers KENT FAULK Birmingham News (AL) July 31, 2007HUNTSVILLE - The move of thousands of military jobs to Redstone Arsenal is under way, a transition signaled with the opening Monday of a $44 million office building on the post. As more people arrive to staff the Missile Defense Agency, plus two other commands, the post will pick up 4,700 defense workers, including federal employees and contractors. Another $650 million in construction and moving costs are planned. "This marks the major milestone of the Missile Defense Agency's move down into the Huntsville area," said Lt. Gen. Henry A. "Trey" Obering III, the agency's director. The jobs were moved from Virginia locations under a federal process two years ago to consolidate bases and duties - called the Base Realignment and Closure process. The moves are to be completed by 2011. ...
