Review: Moffett report deficient

Army's document on impacts of proposed complex draws concern

Much like the colorless, sweet-smelling chemical contaminating the 
groundwater at Orion Park, critiques of an Army draft report about the 
anticipated impacts of a proposed military complex on that section of 
Moffett Field are seeping to the surface.

Comments on the report submitted by the city of Mountain View, NASA Ames 
Research Center, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a local public 
advocacy nonprofit share a common theme: The document is inaccurate and 
insufficient.

The 200-plus page draft report released July 13 concluded that only 
negligible environmental and socioeconomic impacts would result from 
razing Orion Park, an abandoned 30-acre housing development, and 
constructing the 270,000-square-foot military complex. As a result, the 
Army said in the report that an environmental impact statement was 
unnecessary and allotted 30 days for public review of its document. The 
Army is now in the process of making revisions based on feedback it has 
received
