Army's good faith effort appreciated Editorial Connecticut Post August 30, 2007The U.S. Army's about-face on decommissioning the Stratford Army Engine Plant no doubt brought a lengthy sigh of relief from local and state public safety officials. Stratford and state officials were justifiably worried when earlier this summer the Army announced that it would turn out the lights and shut off the water to the sprawling 78-acre property with its 56 buildings in the town's South End adjacent to Sikorsky Memorial Airport. A concerted effort by U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, Mayor James R. Miron and a host of other officials, including the director of the state's Division of Fire, Emergency and Building Services, convinced the Army to rethink its position. ...
