Big plans for Orion ParkArmy to build 'important facility' there, but watchdogs worry about traffic, other issues by Daniel DeBolt Mountain View Voice (CA) September 7, 2007At Moffett Field's 72-acre Orion Park, a "revamping of the Army" is set to begin no later than 2011. The military's plans, which would occupy 30 acres of the site, are ambitious: A new 270,000-square-foot training center will house 413 full-time employees and up to 735 reservists every weekend. It will also serve as a command post for the region. "It will become a very important facility," said Army spokesman Don Sundius.The center will be one of only three in the U.S. where a self-contained, 240-bed facility can be airlifted to regional disaster sites. Of the reservists there, "92 percent will be medical people" who will "keep their skills sharp in case of national emergency," Sundius said. ...
