Will Small Businesses be Left Out in BRAC? By DAN LAMOTHE Capital News Service WTOP News Radio October 31, 2007BOWIE, Md. - Closing loopholes that keep small and minority-owned businesses from securing government contracts needs to be a priority as billions of dollars are spent on the base realignment process, Maryland's minority affairs secretary said Tuesday. Luwanda W. Jenkins, special secretary for the Maryland Office of Minority Affairs, told Gov. Martin O'Malley's base realignment sub-cabinet that efforts are already underway to ensure small businesses are not left out as base realignment construction and services are planned. "This is where we really need to make sure that small and minority businesses have a place at the table," Jenkins said. "We need to be making sure these things happen, and that loopholes that prevent it are closed." ...
