New BRAC site plan offered Tom Ramstack Washington Times (DC) November 8, 2007American Building Corp. joined the competition this week to develop one of the sites the Defense Department will use as it reshuffles its Washington-area staff and facilities under the Base Realignment and Closure Act. The real estate development company submitted a proposal to build a 45-acre campus for the Defense Department's Washington Headquarters Service in Manassas Park, Va. The $1.5 billion project would result in about 6,500 Defense Department employees moving to a community built for them near the Virginia Railway Express' Blooms Grove Station. Each Defense Department job would create an average of another 1.5 private jobs, resulting in about 20,000 new jobs for Manassas Park if the Defense Department awards American Building Corp. the contract, company officials said. ...
