Enid National Guard armory is contaminated with lead By Robert Barron Enid News & Eagle (OK) November 20, 2007 Some day the city of Enid may take over the National Guard armory here, but before that happens, an unseen enemy must be eliminated. The armory, 600 E. Elm, is contaminated with lead, as are about 59 other armories around the state. Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has the job of removing that lead before the armories are turned over to anyone. The cost will be about $100,000 per facility. The lead contamination came from firing ranges built in the armories. Dustin Davidson, of DEQ, said a lead-based paint removal contractor will remove the lead, which was caused by dust from indoor firing. Then, the firing ranges will be sealed. Firing ranges vary in size, he said, but most are about 100 feet long and approximately 10 feet wide. Some have a 10-foot by 10-foot room on the rear. ...
