Easing The Transition A resource center opens to assist those affected by military base closures. By David Schultz Arlington Connection (VA) November 19, 2007 When Congress announced in 2005 that, as part of its BRAC Commission responsible for military base realignment, nearly 23,000 jobs would be leaving the area, many feared the worse for Arlington and Alexandria. But instead of fret, the leaders of state and local governments are trying to do something about it. Last week, they gathered in Arlington to mark the opening of the BRAC Transition Center. Located in Crystal City, one of the most heavily BRAC-affected areas in the county, the BRAC Transition Center is an attempt to lessen the pain from the upcoming transition, which is set to be completed by 2011. ...
