Military's local impact spelled out in hard numbers in new study by Catherine Dominguez San Antonio Business Journal (TX) November 28, 2007 The City of San Antonio released a study Wednesday on the economic impact that the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has on the local community. The results reveal that impact tipped the scales at $13.3 billion for 2006. That number is more than double what the city has touted in the past. The figure includes the impact from the military bases, retired military personnel and DOD contractors. The study, which was commissioned by the city's Military Transformation Task Force, will be key in promoting the future growth of the city and in its efforts to continue to work in unison with the military, city officials say. The study also highlights the projected impact of the military base adjustments now under way as a result of the Pentagon's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) decisions. ...
