Homeless center, police substation to be neighbors LBPD facility OK'd for Army Reserve site, with health center nearby. By Paul Eakins Long Beach Press Telegram (CA) December 18, 2007 LONG BEACH - Despite residents' safety concerns, the City Council on Tuesday approved a plan for an Eastside homeless health center and a new police substation at a nearby Army Reserve site slated for closure. Under the proposal approved 8-1, a substation for the Long Beach Police Department's East Division would be placed at the Schroeder Hall U.S. Army Reserve Center at Willow Street and Grand Avenue, while a 1-acre city-owned lot next to the Department of Health and Human Services across the street would be the homeless assistance center. The proposal also calls for an alternative project, in case the Health Department location isn't viable, in which homeless services would share the Schroeder Hall site with the LBPD substation. ...
