BETHESDA, Md. -- A review panel from the Montgomery County Planning
Board will recommend Thursday that the Navy move forward with the
smaller of two options for the expansion of the National Naval Medical
Center in Bethesda.

The plan calls for 1.2 million square feet of new construction on the
site, renovating over 400,000 square feet of existing buildings and
preserving a historic building on the grounds of the Medical Center.

The panel also will make recommendations on how to alleviate some of the
traffic impacts the federal base realignment and closure plan will have
on the surrounding area.
