Level Of Toxins Key To Chaffee Cleanup Costs By Mary L. Crider Fort Smith Times Record (AR) February 5, 2008 10:00 County Judge David Hudson and Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Ivy Owen both labeled as productive a state-local-federal coordination meeting Monday for the Chaffee Crossing cleanup. How much the cleanup will cost from the Jan. 29 fire that engulfed about 100 acres and destroyed about 150 mostly vacant World War II-era buildings will depend on the level of asbestos contamination - if any - and how much federal aid - if any - the applying agency qualifies for, Hudson said. Twenty-four people attended the meeting, including Fort Smith city administrators, Hudson and representatives from Sebastian County Emergency Management, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, state Department of Environmental Security, Fort Smith Fire Department, Department of Energy, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, Barling Fire Department and Congressman John Boozman's office, Owen said. ...
