Introduction to Conference

My name is John Stone(jstone@emerald.tufts.edu) and I am a senior at
Tufts University in the greater Boston area. Currently, I am
researching/writing my senior thesis on US military environmental policy
abroad in the Philippines, Panama, and Germany(specifics to be
narrowed).

My interest in military base environmental problems stems a 1993
internship with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee(Cambridge,
MA). I worked with Polly Parks on the UUSC's campaign for US sponsored
toxic waste clean-up at Subic and Clark bases in the Philippines. As I'm
sure the conference already knows, Clinton's recent visit to the
Philippines and meeting with Philippine President Ramos on the
environmental status of the bases shows that the campaign was successful.

I look forward to hearing opinions and facts on military bases and the
environment. If you have any information that you feel useful to my
studies I would appreciate any assistance!
