Bill, I've never heard of the problem you are referring to (i.e. vinyl chloride gumming up the GAC). First, I suspect that you have a lot more TCE/DCE than VC coming off thestack. Second, if you do have enough VC to gum up the works, you probably have enough VC to be concerned. As you may know, the MCL for VC is an order of magnitude stricter than the MCL for either TCE or DCE. I would be concerned that the Navy is re-injecting treated water back to the aquifer if VC is present in any measurable quantity. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the MCL for VC (0.5 ppb) is at the detection limit. I don't know if this helps you, or causes you to be more concerned. I would have another conversation with the contracvtor and EPA. | |
