A similar plan for removing contaminated groundwater from an underground plume, treating it, and then re-injecting it into the ground has been done near Sacramento for the last 15 or so years. A plume under the Aerojet plant in Rancho Cordova (East of Sacramento) was found to be moving toward a municipal well. Their (Aerojet's) idea was to re-inject the treated water in a barrier fashion to change the direction of underground water flow so the well souldn't get contaminated. One can imagine the complexities involved. |
