Posting from "Nick Morgan" <nmorgan@igc.org> Subject: US Bases in Panama & Philippines: SF Forums Greetings, There will be two San Francisco Bay area forums on: *** THE CONSEQUENCES OF U.S. MILITARY POLLUTION ON PANAMA AND THE PHILIPPINES *** These two free events are being held Monday, October 30, 7 PM, Fort Mason, Building C, Room 216, San Francisco; and Thursday, November 2, 7:30 PM, La Pena Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Avenue, Berke ley. Representatives from Panamanian and Philippines grassroots groups will discuss the environmental impact of U.S. military toxic wastes and the foreign policy impacts of future military treaties at the se two Bay area forums. The U.S. is scheduled to completely withdraw from Panama by 1999, as it did in the Philippines in 1992. The toxic legacy of decades of U.S. military presence in these countr ies has left a dark cloud over bilateral relations, and is a threat to local citizens, as well as to future U.S. relations in Asia and Central America. Recent photo's, first hand accounts, and oppor tunities for action will be presented and discussed. In addition to the forums, we will be taking our Panamanian and Filipino guests on tours of NAS Alameda (10/31: 10-12PM), NS Treasure Island (10/31: 1-2PM), NSY Hunter's Point (10/31: 2-4PM), and For t Ord (11/1: 3-5PM). Members of the public are welcome to join these tours but must let Nick Morgan know in advance of such interest.
