 U.S. Army Plans to Invade Your National Forest!
 Senators Johnston and Breaux, (D-LA), have successfully pushed 
legislation in the U.S. Senate that transfers the entire Vernon District 
of Kisatchie National Forest, located in western Louisiana, to the Army's 
Ft. Polk for intensive military training purposes WITHOUT PUBLIC INPUT 
AND WITHOUT ANY STUDY OF ALTERNATIVES.
 Now it's up to the House-Senate Conference Committee whether this 
brazen amendment to the Senate's Defense Authorization Bill will be 
included in the final version of the bill.
 Contact your Congressman ASAP if he/she appears on the list of 
the Conference Committee members below. AND/OR call any of the key 
Congressmen signified by a "*" before his or her name.
 The Vernon District of Kisatchie National Forest is unique and 
valuable to every U.S. citizen, and includes:
 * rare and delicate pitcher-plant bogs that host many rare 
 plants that are threatened by Army maneuvers;
 * three state natural and scenic rivers that 
 are imperiled by sediment from tanks; and
 * 244 endangered red-cockaded woodpecker cluster 
 sites, one of the three largest populations in the world.

 You may wish to emphasize to these representatives that this 
takeover is opposed by many diverse groups,including over 400 private 
property owners within Kisatchie National Forest, hunters, off-road 
vehicle/mountain bike enthusiasts, and good government/public process
advocates as well as environmentalists.
