International City/County Management Association and Energy Commuinities Alliance (ICMA) invite you to: Cleaning Up After the Cold War: The Role of Local Government in the Cleanup and Reuse of Federal Facilities. December 6, 1996 San Antonio, Texas _______________ The study explores effective local government involvement in federal facility environmental remediation, future use planning, and institutional control for site reuse. ECA and ICMA visited Department of Energy and Department of Defense facilities across the county to interview local, state, and federal officials, planners, emergency management personnel, members of environmental restoration and reuse advisory groups, among others. These interviews were the basis for the report findings. The workshop will address the study's findings, local governments' experience working with DOD and DOE, the Federal Facilities Environmental Restoration Dialogue Committee (FFERDC) Report as it pertains to local government, and the ECA/Department of Energy Role of Local Government Principles. The one and a half day workshop will include sessions for both former and active, energy and defense communities. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from other local communities. WHEN The workshop will be held from: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on December 6 and 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on December 7 WHERE The location of the workshop is the La Mansion del Rio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The hotel is conveniently located near the San Antonio Convention Center along the beautiful downtown riverwalk.
