CORRECTED FY98 CLEANUP BUDGET FIGURES I'm still awaiting a complete fiscal year 1998 budget proposal summary from the Defense Department Environmental Security office, but from the President's budget I have enough to correct the information I provided in a previous posting. As far as I can tell, the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Enviromental Restoration ceiling total remains far below the active/former base cleanup acccounts. BRAC Environmental Restoration - Proposed FY1998 Ceiling Round II $228,789,000 Round III $315,967,000 Round IV $200,841,000 Total $745,597,000 Meanwhile, Defense Environmental Alert (February 12, 1997) reports that the total FY98 budget proposal for the "accounts formerly known as DERA" is $1,264,000,000, $51 million less than the final appropriation in FY97.
