Subject: | DOD MODELING SEMINAR |
The Department of Defense is planning a two-day Environmental Security Modeling & Simulation Seminar and Workshop on March 18 and 19, 1997, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia. The event will focus on the many opportunities available for improving environmental management and decision making through expanded use of modeling and simulation. Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Technology, Dr. Paul Kaminski, is the keynote speaker for the first day and Dr. John Gibbons, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, is the scheduled luncheon speaker. The program will include presentations by each of the Military Departments on current environmental security modeling and simulation applications in remediation, pollution prevention and acquisition, conservation, and compliance. On the second day, resource-oriented modeling and simulation workshops will be held to provide in-depth information and training in the areas of estuarine/coastal waters, groundwater, riverine/watersheds, natural and cultural resources modeling, atmospheric and noise modeling, and industrial processes. Workshops will emphasize current, successful applications, model selection, and sources of technical support. The registration fee, which covers the cost of the luncheon, is $25.
