Subject: Natural Attenuation/groundwater/metals

I'm making inquiries on behalf of residents near Fort McCoy in
Wisconsin, where 10 areas within the facility have high levels of metals
contaminated groundwater.

The principal groundwater contaminant is lead, and to a lesser degree:
Arsenic, Beryllium, Chromium, Cadmium and Antimony. Lead levels in
groundwater range from 6.2 ppb (ug/l) to 1,250 ppb. (The groundwater
enforcement standard in Wisconsin is 15 ppb for lead.) Soils are
extremely sandy; the groundwater table is quite shallow; in most areas
between 6 and 10 feet below the surface. The facility is located in the
LaCrosse River watershed; protection of nearby surface water resources
is a strong community concern.

The proposed remedial technologies for treatment of metals
contaminated groundwater (at 9 of out 10 sites) is natural attenuation.

Question:
Does anyone know of sites where groundwater contamination (metals) has
been reduced to below enforcement standards using natural attenuation as
the sole treatment? If so, what were the original groundwater
contaminant levels at this site/s and how long did it take for
groundwater standards to be met? A point of contact for the site would
be very helpful.

Thanks so much for your help!
