Subject: | Foreign Spent Nuclear Fuel Program |
I received the following message from Seth Kirshenberg (sethk@energyca.org) at Energy Communities Alliance. --Aimee Houghton This month, the National Safety Council's Environmental Health Center will publish a guide to the U.S. foreign research reactor spent fuel program. Under that program, spent nuclear fuel from foreign research reactors will enter the United States at either Charleston Naval Weapons Station, in South Carolina or the Concord Naval Weapons Station, in California. From there, the spent fuel will be transported to a Department of Energy facility for storage--either the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory or the Savannah River Site. In non-technical language, "A Guide to Foreign Research Reactor Spent fuel" explains the program and its goals and describes how the spent fuel is to be transported, handled, safeguarded, and stored when it arrives in the United States. To receive a copy, contact Dawn Amore at the Environmental Health Center <amored@nsc.org>. The supply is limited, so please submit your request no later than Friday, June 12, 1998. ************* Seth Kirshenberg sethk@energyca.org 1101 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. 10th Floor Washington, DC 20036 -- Aimee Houghton Program Coordinator Center for Public Environmental Oversight tel: (415) 904-7750; fax: (415) 904-7765 Email: aimeeh@cpeo.org A Program of the San Francisco Urban Institute | |
