[This came in from one of our readers.] ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST III Progressive firm seeks three individuals with excellent social science, journalism and community relations skills to work in our community relations department. Offices needing staff are located in Baltimore and Edgewood, Maryland. Work focuses on public involvement in environmental projects in a five state Region, and includes drafting and layout of public information materials and newsletters; innovative risk communication support at high visibility environmental projects, assistance with public meetings; scheduling, conducting and summarizing community interviews; using community input to formulate community relations plans; preparing proposals; and providing support to technical staff. Flexibility and adaptability a must. Also requires a Masters (or equivalent of 3 years additional experience) with at least 3 years of direct environmental community relations experience, and at least a total of 10 years of related experience. Strong speaking and writing skills, ability to translate technical materials into understandable language, and the ability to deal with a wide variety of clients from government agencies to private industry. Experience with MS WORD, Page Maker, Excel and MS Project software is required. Experience with DOE, BRAC, CERCLA, RCRA, and NEPA public involvement programs preferred.
