Subject: | UXO Meeting for RAB members |
"Protecting the Public at Unexploded Ordnance Sites" When: June 26-27, 1999 Where: Benicia, California, near the former Benicia Arsenal CPEO is inviting Restoration Advisory Board members and other community representatives from current and former military facilities with known or suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination, as well as representatives from academia, industry, and government, to a two-day meeting to discuss risk assessment, risk management, and risk communications at UXO sites. After presentations of the Range Rule Risk Methodology - under development by a multi-constituency partnering team - and other approaches to UXO risk, participants will be asked how they believe public health and the environment can best be protected at ranges and UXO disposal/demilitarization sites. * What information is necessary to make good risk management decisions? * How should characterization technologies be selected? * How does future land use relate to UXO remediation strategies? * What are reasonable standards for safety and reliability? * What are the proper roles of the various players, including community members, in the decision-making process? The program will also include a tour of Benicia and the former arsenal. For more information, write <cpeo@cpeo.org> or phone Lenny Siegel at 650/961-8918. Space is limited. -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 222B View St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/968-1126 lsiegel@cpeo.org (PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE PHASING OUT MY OLD E-MAIL ADDRESS: lsiegel@igc.org) http://www.cpeo.org | |
