Subject: Meeting on Army Ammunition Plants

"Public Health in the Environs of Army Ammunition Plants"

When: July 31-August 1, 1999.

Where: Jackson, Tennessee, near the Milan Army Ammunition Plant

CPEO is inviting Restoration Advisory Board members from Army Ammunition
Plants and similar facilities, as well as representatives from academia,
industry, and government, to a two-day meeting/focus group to discuss
the unique risks to public health and the environment posed by
contamination from ammunition plants. Topics will include:

* The toxicology of explosive chemicals

* Treatment technologies for explosive contamination

* The responsibility of private contractors

* The transfer and leasing of ammunition plants

* Opportunities for ecological restoration and preservation at
ammunition plants

Though the meeting will include background presentations from a wide
range of perspectives, the purpose of the event is to determine
community concerns about contamination and cleanup at federal
conventional munitions production facilities. We are also arranging a
tour of the Milan AAP.

Space is limited. For more information, write <cpeo@cpeo.org> or phone
Jeff Green at 415/405-7750.
