"Public Health in the Environs of Army Ammunition Plants" When: July 31-August 1, 1999. Where: Jackson, Tennessee, near the Milan Army Ammunition Plant CPEO is inviting Restoration Advisory Board members from Army Ammunition Plants and similar facilities, as well as representatives from academia, industry, and government, to a two-day meeting/focus group to discuss the unique risks to public health and the environment posed by contamination from ammunition plants. Topics will include: * The toxicology of explosive chemicals * Treatment technologies for explosive contamination * The responsibility of private contractors * The transfer and leasing of ammunition plants * Opportunities for ecological restoration and preservation at ammunition plants Though the meeting will include background presentations from a wide range of perspectives, the purpose of the event is to determine community concerns about contamination and cleanup at federal conventional munitions production facilities. We are also arranging a tour of the Milan AAP. Space is limited.
