Subject: | Military Says: No Explosives in Bomb Accident |
"Bomb blew-- mystery is why: No explosives, military says By Chris Bowman and Ralph Montaņo Bee Staff Writer (Published Aug. 5, 1999) Investigators of Tuesday's junkyard explosion that injured a worker and closed Highway 50 for hours have shifted their focus to the torch-cutting operation at the metal salvaging yard as a plausible source of the blast. Sacramento County fire officials originally thought residual explosives inside a scrapped 500-pound Army bombshell was to blame. But that theory was thrown into doubt late Tuesday after military munitions experts concluded the bombs were fakes used in combat practice."
