Oyler, Principal Chief United Tribe of Shawnee Indians ************************************************* http://www.ljworld.com/section/frontpage/story/4478 State penalizes treatment plant By Joe Miller, Journal-World Reporter Wednesday, May 3, 2000 DeSoto State regulators have cited Kansas Waste Water Inc. for falsifying data and other environmental violations, fining the company $56,000 and revoking one of its operating permits. The industrial waste treatment plant, when operating normally, is authorized to pump 120,000 gallons of treated waste a day into the Kansas River near DeSoto. The river is a drinking water source for much of northeast Kansas, including Douglas and Johnson counties. A state audit of the company's records of required tests of the waste it treats failed to match the information reported to state officials who review it as part of their oversight of the facility.
