Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Bucket, Bucket -Whos got the bucket-State penalizes treatment plant

Thank you Mr. Joe Miller. Excellent reporting.

Bucket, Bucket ----Whos got the bucket---State penalizes treatment plant.
Its time KWWI was sent packing.

Why did it take so long for Kansas to take action and also why would the
Army let KWWI operate at SFAAP?

State penalizes treatment plant
By Joe Miller, Journal-World Reporter

Wednesday, May 3, 2000

DeSoto State regulators have cited Kansas Waste Water Inc. for falsifying
data and other environmental violations, fining the company $56,000 and
revoking one of its operating permits.

The industrial waste treatment plant, when operating normally, is
authorized to pump 120,000 gallons of treated waste a day into the Kansas
River near DeSoto. The river is a drinking water source for much of
northeast Kansas, including Douglas and Johnson counties.

A state audit of the company's records of required tests of the waste it
treats failed to match the information reported to state officials who
review it as part of their oversight of the facility.

The state revoked the company's laboratory license Thursday, which means
Kansas Waste Water now must rely on third-party testing or stop treating
and discharging waste.
