[CPEO-MEF] UXO Found at Lowry AFB

On Monday, 5 live 22mm shells were found by a landscaping crew while
preparing a plot for laying sod. The plot where the shells were found is
immediately behind the fence of one of the rental townhomes. While it has
been determined that no explosive was contained in the shells, it has not
been determined if they contained propellant or if it had leached out.

Residents of the rental units complained at the RAB meeting last night that
it took 27 hours after the shells were found for residents to be contacted
and that the site where the shells was excavated was marked as a
"construction zone." No one from the Lowry Redevelopment Authority staff or 
board of directors or citizens advisory committee attended last night's RAB 
to help answer questions or to hear concerns.

The Air Force refused last night to say that they would use magnotometers 
to explore areas around other housing areas, despite requests from new
homeowners on Lowry.
