Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] NEW GUIDE RELEASED ON PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITS |
FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2000 NEW GUIDE RELEASED ON PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITS EPA recently released a new guide on public involvement in environmental permits. The guidance document, "Public Involvement in Environmental Permits: A Reference Guide," is intended to improve the quality of public involvement in permitting decisions across all of EPA's air, water and waste permit programs. The guide is primarily written for state program staff, but can serve as a foundation of information for all stakeholders including states, citizens groups and industry on the core requirements and best practices in public involvement. EPA worked closely with the National Environmental Justice Advisory Committee, the Environmental Counsel of the States, and held focus group meetings with additional environmental state, industry and local groups to develop this final guidance. The document is available at: http://www.epa.gov/permits or by calling the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810.
