Wednesday November 1 3:02 AM ET U.S. Mortar Bomb Kills Two Boys in Vietnam HANOI (Reuters) - Two young boys were killed when a U.S. mortar bomb exploded in central Vietnam this week, underscoring the danger of leftover war ordnance just weeks before a historic visit by President Clinton (news - web sites). The bomb exploded after the boys aged 12 and 14 started playing with it while grazing cattle in the village of Deo Gio in Quang Ngai province on Monday, local police chief Co Van Tung said. Both were killed instantly. ``Apparently the two boys found the mortar and one started hitting it,'' Tung said. Dozens of deaths caused by leftover war ordnance are reported in Vietnam every year and many of those killed are children. In one week in August, 10 people, including six children, were killed by war-era explosives. Much of the ordnance is a legacy of the massive U.S. military involvement in Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s.
