Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Senate "Encroachment" Hearings |
The March 20, 2001 Senate Aarmed Services Readiness Subcommittee Hearings on "encroachment issues," referred to in early postings, seems to presage what could be a significant, hard-fought, lengthy legislative battle over the application of federal and state environmental laws and regulations to military training activities. In short, at least some of the armed services feel that "regulatory encroachment" has restricted training so much that they need legislative relief. We'll be posting a lengthier analysis of the hearings. For now, one can download PDF files containing written testimony from the Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force from http://www.senate.gov/~armed_services/hearings/2001/r010320.htm Lenny -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 222B View St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/968-1126 lsiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
