   MAPLETON -- In a community still wracked by news that some of its
water supply is polluted, the angst is best illustrated by a stroll
through Jennette Allman's yard.

    At the end of the Allman property, on the other side of the fence,
is a warehouse-like structure housing machinery that treats tainted
groundwater. 

    The landscape is a dread reminder of what she believes killed her
husband. 

    Allman is suing the current and former owners of the nearby Trojan
Explosives plant, claiming the company's former waste-disposal practices
poisoned Glenn Allman, who died last summer of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a
type of cancer.

    Trojan's cooperation was fueled in large part by the discovery in
1994 of RDX in private and city-owned wells in Mapleton. The late
discovery came as a result of new technology for detecting RDX. 

    The presence of RDX confirmed that the contaminated plume was coming
from Trojan because RDX does not occur naturally.
