State official supports flyover of Army plant By Dennis J. Carroll The Hawk Eye http://www.thehawkeye.com/daily/stories/ln230510.html With pressure mounting for a low-level flyover of the munitions plant in Middletown, state radiation regulators Thursday are expected to repeat their call for such a flyover to detect possible radiation hazards. Both of Iowa's U.S. senators, Republican Charles Grassley and Democrat Tom Harkin, have urged the Army to allow specially equipped low-flying aircraft to survey the entire 19,000-acre Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. "If it's as simple as having a flyover and the equipment is available, it would be idiotic not to do it, in other words a no-brainer," Grassley said recently.
