Officials Try to Resolve Toxic Issues at Hamilton By Con Garretson Federal officials will fix lingering environmental problems at Hamilton and pick up the tab for the work, Marin County's congresswoman pledged yesterday. Midway through a tour of the former military base yesterday, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma, announced that the Army had decided to release nearly half of the $1.65 million requested by military cleanup officials to deal with methane leaking from a former military landfill. "I feel confident that the Army and Navy are going to work together, that they are taking full responsibility for the problems and they know it's their job to fix it, and that it will be at federal expense," Woolsey said. Those on the tour heard the voices of protesters who were advocating further environmental testing of the area, especially around the proposed relocation site for the Novato Charter School. ...
