I am sorry I cannot help you with Guam but I do have another story that might help give validity to your facts. I work for a non-profit Center here in Florida. The first floor provides services (mainly assistive technology) to children with low vision, no vision and multi-disablities. One of our babies (she just turned one) was adopted by an American couple. This sweet and beautiful baby girl was born on the Marshall Islands with no eyes (her only, by God's grace, disability). Since the '40's, this birth defect is 'common' on the islands, here 'stateside' it is quite rare. The only child we ever saw with this disability, which was only one of several she had, recently died. Nuclear testing was done on the Marshall Islands and I truly believe this birth defect is directly related to said testing. I have also been in contact with others from the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in New York who believe this nuclear contamination has caused a vast amount of defects, one of which is Down Syndrome. So much for Nuclear Power! I wish you all the best in your endeavors to get to the bottom of this. The military is having a 'hard' time admitting to UXO contamination (which seems to be a kind of 'in your face' reality to us civilians). I can only assume to have them own up to nuclear contamination will be that much harder of a fight. Maybe, just maybe, those in the military who have enough 'clout' will see this and right these terrible wrongs...that is the lack of cleanup of their messes left behind to do such horrible damage, not just to those who served our country, but to the generations that were born into the 'nightmare'. I sincerely wish you the best. Stella Bourassa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
