[CPEO-MEF] Rocket Fuel

Hello all:

An important new report was released yesterday by the Environmental Working
Group.  The report, called "Rocket Science" can be found on their web site at
http://www.ewg.org/pub/home/reports/rocketscience/

According to the report, perchlorate - the main ingredient of missile and
rocket fuel - has been found in 58 California public water systems.  The
report also says that EPA "believes [perchlorate-tainted water] exists
wherever rocket fuel or rockets were made or tested - 39 states in all". 
Perchlorate affects thyroid function and can therefore have serious effects
on development in children, infants, and fesuses.

The report also states that "the U.S. military should be prohibited from
lobbying to weaken environmental laws or regulations...."
