Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Missouri Federal Facilities Report |
The Federal Facilities Section of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has prepared a 24-page booklet summarizing contamination and cleanup efforts at past and present Defense and Energy Department sites within the state. Thus far, the Energy Department has spent nearly $900 million on remediation in Missouri, at the Department's Kansas City plant, the former Weldon Spring Uranium Feed Materials Plans, and other sites within the St. Louis area. The Defense Department has spent nearly $300 million, at facilities such as the Weldon Spring Ordnance Works, Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, the Jefferson Barracks, Richards Gebaur Air Force Base, and Whiteman Air Force Base. (As far as I know, there are no Navy facilities in Missouri.) The Section is reviewing more than 40 Formerly Used Defense Sites. Five of the state's 26 "Superfund" National Priorities List sites, including the newly added Pools Prairie/Camp Crowder site, are federal facilities. For copies of the report, write Ramona Huckstep, MDNR, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102, phone her at 573/522-1540 or send e-mail to <nrhuckr@mail.dnr.state.mo.us>.
