City Saves Brooks Air Force Base From The Chopping Block San Antonio, TX, Feb. 20 - Is Brooks Air Force Base finally safe from the closure list? Today, the city announced it saved Brooks, by becoming the first city in the country to own its own Air Force base. Afsar Mustafa's convenience store cash register rings constantly. Mustafa's relieved the city's saving brooks, because base workers provide as much as 20% of Mustafa's business. "Brooks Air Force is like dependent for business because the people who work for Brooks live around the area and they bring their whole family for business too," Mustafa said. It's called "City Base." Under this plan, the city owns all the land and property at brooks. The Air Force pays the city rent. Then the city rents out unused property on the base to private companies for a profit. It's a win-win situation for the city and the Air Force.
