The city of Tustin and the Navy agreed to a deal late Thursday night
that will allow the city to develop the 1,600-acre former Marine base.

The deal was announced at 10:10 p.m. Earlier in the week, the Navy said
it would put the land up for public sale if there was no agreement.

The city is still working out details of a separate agreement that would
give Santa Ana Unified 22 acres to build a K-8 school, while Rancho
Santiago Community College Districts gets 15 acres. Santa Ana is also to
receive $38million to build a high school elsewhere.

Tustin can now begin the planning process to start turning the base into
homes, businesses, a park and a golf course.
