[POSTED BY ARLEN CRABB (ajcrabb@bellatlantic.net)] Greetings, For more than 2 years the Restoration Advisory Board at Aberdeen Proving Grounds has been trying to study Range fires and if there are toxic chemicals released into the air during a burn. There have been several burns conducted and some data has been collected. As you can guess it is hard to collect samples when you are at the mercy of the weather, winds, and conditions of the burn areas. An area that was know to be contaminated was selected and then when the proper weather conditions existed a burn was attempted. There were a total of 3 sampling stations and one back ground sample during each burn. With the current drought conditions in the State of Maryland I think that there is a need and a possibility of more test burns to collect data. Arlen Crabb President, APGSCC Board member APG RAB | |
