Subject: [CPEO-MEF] UXO Safety Webpage

The Department of Defense has recently made available on their website
an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Safety Education Program. Highlighting the
key components of civilian UXO encounters, the multimedia program
functions to educate community members at a student/teacher level. At
its most effective, the website serves the public with instructions on
how to identify UXO, supplemented by safety precautions and directions
concerning who to inform and how. The website, which is addressed
generally to DoD organizations and the public, successfully speaks to
the gamut of the community, offering detailed descriptions of UXO
(accompanied by images), frequently asked questions, a glossary of terms
and definitions, and downloadable posters and activity workbooks for
parents and children (in .pdf format).

>From an educator's standpoint, the website offers the means to attain a
basic knowledge of UXO identification and handling procedures as well as
methods of relaying the information to those of different levels of
understanding within the community. The website makes available
instructors' guides, downloadable slideshows, video stream public
service announcements, printable images, news releases and incident
reports- all functioning complementary to one another to educate
community members to a heightened awareness of the dangers of UXO.
Further, if community members want additional training, the website
makes available a request form for training seminars on the subject.

The website and all its supplementary documents can be accessed at:
