Guard set to dig up J Ranges A computerized map of the former firing ranges on Camp Edwards shows the location of buried metal, possibly unexploded ordnance. By KEVIN DENNEHY STAFF WRITER CAMP EDWARDS - With sophisticated magnetometers that combed the old training ranges foot by foot, the military last year produced geological maps of metal underground. And, as expected, large blotches on the map tell the story of more than a dozen pockets of buried metal in an area that hugs the Sandwich border. Now, it's time to dig. The National Guard has orders to remove the remnants of years of training - in this case, the work of Defense contractors in the former J Ranges near the neighborhood of Forestdale.
